Hampden/Hampden South

Right in the middle of a new transportation system that is currently under construction, Hampden is an area that is evolving into a top-flight neighborhood. Because of its proximity to the new light rail station, I-25 and major thoroughfares, Hampden is bringing in new commercial and residential developments. Right off the highway are new luxury condos and the commercial & retail corridors to the east of the highway are experiencing a face lift. Just across the southern border, residents enjoy Bible Park, a 70-acre sanctuary with four skinned softball fields, four football fields, four tennis courts, a playground, basketball court and runner path, which joins with the Cherry Creek and High Line Canal trails.

Hampden is a family area with mostly single family homes that average 2,000-3,000 square feet. In addition, lot sizes are considerably larger than average. While Hampden costs more per square foot than Denver’s average, it is still much more affordable than other family areas such as Park Hill. The schools are above average and there are convenient shopping areas.

2. The crime index suggests the risk of certain types of crime occuring in this community as compared to the national average. The national average for each type of crime equals a score of 100, so a score of 200 would represent twice the risk as the national average, and a score of 50 would represent half the risk of the naitonal average. About Hamilton Middle School: Hamilton Middle School, located in southeast Denver, hosts three magnet programs, as well as its own neighborhood students. Rigorous curriculum and high standards for behavior and academic work are the norm.

The diversity of Hamilton is the result of bringing in over 500 students from all corners of Denver. About 400 of these are enrolled in the International Preparatory Magnet, which prepares students for the high school International Baccalaureate program and any high school program. Our diverse population continues to benefit from our school-wide reading and writing programs. Extensive staff development over the last five years has assured that literacy remains a top priority, as reflected in our CSAP scores, which are among the highest in the district. Foreign language is also a priority; 450 students take a foreign language from four teachers on the faculty. Strong instrumental and choral programs, extensive elective opportunities, and a strong intramural sports program enrich the students' experiences at Hamilton. A wide array of extracurricular activities are available to all students.

Hamilton also addresses affective needs of students through a Student Support Center. The Assistant Principal, nurse, social worker, student advisor, counselor, psychologist, Jewish Family Service and truant officer form a cohesive unit to address attendance and suspension issues and to assure that emotional and physical needs of students do not interfere with learning. Two full time paraprofessionals meet the needs of students enrolled in the Indian Focus Magnet and students identified as "at risk" through the Safe Schools Healthy Student Initiative Grant. We are proud Hamilton's efforts to ensure that all students are successful!

Hamilton continues to provide quality educational experiences to children. Our test scores and the commitment of faculty, staff, parents, are pleased that we can say--This school reads and writes!
